Exploring Grinton in the Yorkshire Dales: A Quiet Weekend Escape
There’s something special about discovering a place you’ve never even heard of before. That’s exactly how we ended up in Grinton, a quiet village tucked away on the eastern edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
The idea came together pretty simply when I spotted a stay at YHA in Grinton and decided to book one of their pods for a laid-back outdoor weekend with my friend Lucy. We were after somewhere new, somewhere peaceful, and ideally somewhere that felt a little off the radar.
Grinton delivered on all fronts.
A Hidden Corner of the Dales
From the moment we arrived, it felt like we’d stumbled onto a hidden pocket of the countryside. Rolling hills stretched endlessly in every direction. What stood out most was the remoteness. No crowds, no noise, just open landscapes, fresh air, and that rare sense of quiet you don’t realise you need until you have it.
Waterfalls, Wild Dips & Fresh Perspective
One of the highlights of the trip was exploring nearby Keld, home to some beautiful waterfalls with a big pool. It turned out to be the perfect spot for a wild dip: cold, refreshing, and exactly what we needed. The water was freezing but so refreshing!
After just a couple of days, we left feeling lighter, clearer, and genuinely rejuvenated.
Capturing the Moment
This trip also became the perfect excuse to experiment with a new disposable-style lens on my camera. The nostalgic look paired so well with the landscape: soft, slightly imperfect, and full of character.
Why Grinton is Worth Discovering
If you’re looking for a quiet escape in the Yorkshire Dales, away from the more crowded spots, Grinton is absolutely worth considering. It’s understated, peaceful, and surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK.
