Let’s liven up your January with a stunning sunrise hike looking over the rolling hills of the Peak District. On Saturday 23rd January 2027 there’ll be a Wolf Full Moon so we’ll be hoping for a clear sky as we head to Stanage Edge to watch the sun come up. After sunrise we’ll head over to Burbage Edge and down to Longshaw Estate (where we can grab a coffee) so you’ll spend a fantastic morning hiking over the rugged gritstone edges and crisp winter countryside.


Route Summary

Date: Saturday 23rd January 2027

Time: 7:15am-Midday (approx.)

Meeting Point: Stanage/Burbage Edge (near Hathersage) | exact meeting point and details will be sent out via email nearer to the event

Public Transport: there are regular trains to Hathersage where I can collect you from however please check in advance the train times as this is an early start - contact Beth if you’re unsure about your options

Length: 8 miles + 400m elevation

Difficulty: beginner to moderate (beginner hikers will enjoy this more with a good general fitness level but we’ll be taking it at a slow steady pace)

Open to: all adults and dogs

Minimum group size: 2

Maximum group size: 10

Everything you need to bring

  • Breakfast & snacks

  • 1l of water on a cool day, 2l on a hot day

  • Suitable hiking clothes: whatever you feel comfortable in but try to avoid wearing cotton. Make sure you have both warm and cold weather clothing options all year round as the temperature can change quickly, including suitable waterproofs.

  • Footwear: hiking boots, hiking shoes, trail shoes, or trail runners that have good grip. Please do not wear fashion trainers or any smooth soled shoes.

  • Any personal items you need: phone, medications, tissues/toilet roll with a zip lock bag for any wild wees, hand sanitiser, money/card, portable charger.

  • Warmer weather: cap, sun protection, sunglasses

  • Cooler weather: hat, gloves, extra warm layer in your bag, face buff

  • Something to sit on such as a foldable sit-mat, small picnic blanket, extra jacket

  • Head-torch for the start incase it’s still dark
