Let’s take advantage of the bank holiday weekend and enjoy a gorgeous sunset hike looking over the stunning White Peak hills of the Peak District. The Roaches & Hen Cloud is the spot for sunrise & sunset (my fave!) and you’ll spend a fantastic evening hiking over the rugged gritstone edge and rolling countryside.


Route Summary

Date: Sunday 30th August 2026

Time: 4:30pm-9pm (approx.)

Meeting Point: The Roaches (near Leek) (exact meeting point and details will be sent out via email nearer to the event)

Public Transport: this route is not easily accessed by public transport

Length: 7 miles + 400m elevation

Difficulty: beginner to moderate (beginner hikers will enjoy this more with a good general fitness level)

Open to: all adults

Minimum group size: 2 (the minimum number has not yet been reached for this event)

Maximum group size: 8

Everything you need to bring

  • Dinner & snacks

  • 1l of water on a cool day, 2l on a hot day

  • Suitable hiking clothes: whatever you feel comfortable in but try to avoid wearing cotton. Make sure you have both warm and cold weather clothing options all year round as the temperature can change quickly, including suitable waterproofs.

  • Footwear: hiking boots, hiking shoes, trail shoes, or trail runners that have good grip. Please do not wear fashion trainers or any smooth soled shoes.

  • Any personal items you need: phone, medications, tissues/toilet roll with a zip lock bag for any wild wees, hand sanitiser, money/card, portable charger.

  • Warmer weather: cap, sun protection, sunglasses

  • Cooler weather: hat, gloves, extra warm layer in your bag, face buff

  • Something to sit on such as a foldable sit-mat, small picnic blanket, extra jacket

  • Head-torch for after sunset as we return to the cars
