Two Perfect Days in Eryri: A Weekend in the Ogwen Valley

There’s something about Eryri that keeps pulling me back, and this weekend, I completely fell in love with it all over again.

I spent two nights tucked away in the beautiful Ogwen Valley, which, in my opinion, is one of the very best bases for exploring the area. Peaceful, dramatic, and surrounded by towering peaks, it’s the kind of place that instantly slows you down while still inviting adventure.

I stayed at YHA Idwal Cottage, perfectly positioned for getting straight out into the mountains without any fuss. Waking up there, with the peaks on your doorstep, sets the tone for a pretty special day.

A Solo Mountain Day

My first day was all about getting some quality mountain time in as part of my training. I headed out towards Carnedd y Cribau, a quieter corner of the park that often gets overlooked, but absolutely shouldn’t.

It was one of those days where everything just clicks: peaceful trails, big open views, and that sense of calm you only really find in the mountains. From there, the views stretching out towards Snowdon were nothing short of incredible.

Scrambles, Catch-Ups & Big Views

The next day brought a different kind of energy, as my best friend joined me for an adventure up Moel Siabod.

What followed was the perfect mix of scrambling, laughter, and a much-needed catch-up. There’s something about walking side by side up a mountain that makes conversation flow so easily, it turned into one of those days you wish you could bottle.

Kit That Kept Up

We were also putting some new gear to the test, and it’s safe to say it passed with flying colours. I wore the Summit jacket in mint, while Lucy went for the Nomad jacket in teal and pink, both from Mac in a Sac (gifted).

Honestly, you’d have to peel that green jacket off me. It didn’t leave my back the entire trip. Comfortable, practical, and perfect for unpredictable mountain weather. It’s already earned its place on many more adventures to come.

Until Next Time

Two days was all it took to reset, recharge, and fall head over heels for Eryri again.

The landscapes, the quiet corners, the shared moments, it all came together in that effortless way that makes a trip unforgettable.

I’ll definitely be back soon.
